Sichuan University (SCU) is one of China’s top comprehensive research universities with a total of 44 disciplines to grant doctoral degrees, and 4 affiliated hospitals. The College of Life Sciences (CLS) of SCU has subjects including life sciences and biotechnology. West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University (WCSUH) is one of the largest maternal and children’s Hospital in China, and currently the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is ranked 4th in clinic and research nationally, and the in-vitro Fertilization (IVF) Center provides more than 6,000 cycles every year.

Professor  Qun Sun

Professor Qun Sun

Excellent teaching experience and research achievements in biotechnology. As the head of Biotechnology at CLS, director of Sichuan Key Laboratory of Resource Microbiology and Biotechnology, winner of the Excellence in Teaching Award  in SCU in 2015, she has been PI for 30 national grants, with 5 on international cooperation and authored/co-authored 150 publications. SCU will host secondments and provide training.

Prof. Wenming Xu, Ph.D, M.B.

PI in the Joint Laboratory in Reproductive Medicine at SCU. Extensive experience in reproductive biology, Novel genes identification and functional study related to human spermatogenesis and embryo development. He has published more than 40 SCI papers, and some of representative works have been published in Nature Communications, PNAS, Human reproduction, et,al. Expert of male/female infertility, his collaboration with clinics has resulted in 10 translational papers and 2 patents.

Prof. Qintong Li, Ph.D.

PI in the WCSUH. Top expert in the field of stem cell biology and molecular biology, with special expertise on using stem cells and next-generation sequencing technique to dissect etiology of birth defects.

Weicai Zeng, Ph.D.

Experienced teacher, post-doctoral fellow of CLS on Food Safety.

Key Research Facility and Equipment

First-class teaching facilities. CLS and the research center of WCSUH are experienced in stem cell isolation (pluripotent-, spermatogonia-, adipose stem cells), characterization and using them for experimental therapy. Biobank and SPF graded animal room service, with state-of-art equipments including cytoflow, confocal and fMRI machines. The Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine in the hospital is the major research unit for infertility and stem cell research for therapy.

4). The role of miR-15b in spermatogenesis and its potential use as biomarker for spematogenesis defects (NSFC of China 81370747, 2014- 2017);

5) Role of CycK complexes in HIV replication (NSFC-NIH China-USA joint research grant 81261120399, 2013)
